Greetings to you all.

I've been shooting semi-auto weapons for over 37 years (yeah, I'm an old guy), I like M1 Garands, M1A/M14s, and FALs, but I've owned and/or shot lots of other cool things as well.

While i enjoy the 223, I'm mostly a 308 kinda guy. I like and have several sniper rifles, as I like the "one shot, one kill" mentallity. (and I can't afford to "pray and spray)

I've always found the M14 the most accurate of the semi-autos, but it takes a lot of special parts and preperation to get them there, and then keep them there.

But I wanted to build my idea of the "perfect" DMR rifle, so after having no success in getting one of my M14s to run right, I started looking at options. The SASS caught my attention, but my budget didn't like the price.

So my long time shooting/hunting partner, and best friend Marc has this RRA 20 heavy barreled AR15 upper, with the Clymer chamber, and a free float handguard, that is just the most amazing semi-rifle I have ever fired...except that's it a .223.

With his hand loads I have shot sub 1/2" one hole groups with it. So after I told him my plans to get into a AR10 type platform, he said, check out RRA as they're known for their accuracy.

After much research, and a story that's too long for here, I settled on the LAR-8 Standard Operator.

I topped it off with a Pride Fowler, Rapid Recticle, 800 Series scope, in a Burris AR-P.E.P.R. mount.

The ballistic recticle in the scope demands I stay within the perimeters of .450-.540 coeffiecint, and 2600-2700 FPS, if I do so, the scope corrects for bullet drop from 100-800 yards. I'm sure there are MANY more variables to consider, but for a lazy old guy, this seemed like a pretty slick set up.

So far this is the most accurate semi-auto that I have ever owned, currently I am only shooting factory ammo (mostly Radway Green and match) but my budget dictates that soon I will be reloading. So if anyone has "pet loads" for LAR-8s that fit within the above perimeters, feel free to share, and when time permits, I will be searching this sight.

I've got just over 400 rounds of trouble free ammo through her, no malfunctions (other than a few operator error induced ones......DOH!), and I shot a 1/2" (CTC) group the other day with Federal Match! Cheered me right up!

I had 4 rounds in a 1/4" one hole group, but I put the last one out almost a 1/4" to the left.....this rifle CAN shoot, now I need to be able to step up to the plate, as I think this rifle can do much better than me.

I am now a believer in the enhanced AR10 platform! So I hope to learn what works best from your posts.

Thanks - AZ Deuce

Welcome from Glendale, AZ.

If you like M14's try a M1A/Loaded. Mine will shoot 1 ragged hole @ 100M. That was using GI ammo from India. I still need to see if it shoots as good as my AR10T.
