I'm thinking about trying out BUIS for competion and will or would like to keep the scope mounted on the Armalite mounts without removing the scope from the rail, has anyone tried the 45 deg mounts I've seen them in pix and they look pretty sweet(of course they were on a AR15)? and with putting on the MI forearm on the Armalite AR-10 whose sights will work as there looks like there would be a height deviation from the gas block to there rail? Thanx any help or suggestions would be appericated.
I've used the 45 degree setup on my ARs before. They are convenient for shooting targets under 50 yards or "quick shots" for CQB under 25 yards. The change in POI is minor for ranges this short.
I recently replaced my BUIS with a Burris FastFireII red-dot and mounted it on the scope tube at a 45 degree angle. This works better for me for CQB scenarios.
The biggest challenge is supporting all the weight of the AR-10. I assume you'll be on a bench or prone when using the scope.
If you are using the BUIS for competition or anything requiring ring-scoring, it may be a factor. I've never tried to bullseye with the iron sights.
I'm a "high speed-low drag" shooter and any hits within a 6" plate is considered good. For me, it's the balance of speed & acceptable "tactical" accuracy.
As I said before...not sure how it would work with the MI AR-10 Drop in..as for mounting off the Gas block...you would have to research it with MI and ArmaLite...
You have to remember...the Gas Block it lower and the railed Fore Arm you got from MI...it has to be centered "PERFECTLY" in order to get that kind of Precise POI if you are going to use the ForeArm...If you are shooting Comp...I would go a different route..get a QD mount for the scope and some good BUIS...but REMEMBER...BUIS stands for Back Up Iron Sights...hence the word Back Up...when shooting Comp with Irons...they use the A2 Style Sights...or Match Sights...A very Big Difference...The Standard BUIS is at best 100 yards...depending on the make and model and shooter...I am just saying this because I don't want to see you "Dump" a bunch of money on a Combo that is not going to do what you want....Give it some thought.
2ndChance...a shooter much like myself...if I can hit it...then it is a good shot..
and Luv the Avatar...
