Hey out there just picked up a 2004 Armalite AR-10 Carbine at a local gun auction it appears to be unfired and came with a 3-9 Leoupold, haven't been able to find much info on the net, but this looks like a great site. Any simple answers as to what the differance is between the A2 A4 and what I have? I'm use to shooting long range with the bolt guns so please be patient with me. These AR-10's are a new adventure, but I think I have started out with a good platform. I'll find out more this weekend breaking in the barrel! Keep blowing *%$# up!
Let me be the first to Welcome you...It all takes time...being you are a shooter already...it won't take long...to get to know your new best friend...and this site has many references to most questions...but don't hesitate to ask if you have one...
As an instructor of mine once said..."The only dumb question is the one you don't ask...if you don't know..and don't ask...How are you to learn..." he was a wise man..
As to your first question...more info on YOUR rifle is needed...The A2 has a built in Carry Handle, is part of the upper receiver... The A4 is a flat top with a rail on it.
Unless you have the "Detachable" carry handle...if this is the case...then there should be two nobs on one side or the other to remove the handle...Try posting a Picture so we may see...it would help. Also...you can call ArmaLite and give them the Serial # and they may also be able to give you some details...also...again...check their web site on the AR-10 and their Library...for more info as well..When learning, information is the utmost factor....
Again...Welcome to the site...

I'll get some pix when time alows, it's just stamped AR-10 no A2 A4 or anything else, SN starts with 308 so that's cool, it is a flat top with rail and has the Armalite scope mount, no box came with this purchase as I got it at auction for a bill, but the manual was with it and has the 2004 date on it. Also has the MI forearm with Harris bipod so I know I got a great deal, just wishing it was a little longer and heavier barell with the forearm floated. As I mentioned this gun is clean, bore shows no signs of ever being fired. Dosent really matter as it will be plenty good for this next season and then on to building the SASS, looking forword to making some friends here. Also have had my own machine shop for over 10 years now, and have been experimenting with some differnt muzzle brakes and looking to get them out on the market (real secret stuff right now HA HA) will be posting more when time alows or maybe you can help! Like your design on the base mounts BMS
