All,

While looking for additional informtion about the AR10, I stumbled onto this site. I hung out a bit, read some posts and decided it would be worth my while to join.

I retired from the US Army in 2008 after 23 years of service to the republic. I was an Infantryman and spent most of my career with the 82nd Airborne Division and 18th ABC HQ. I also have tours of Ft Campbell and Ft Jackson (DS Assignment). Overseas, I've served in both Germany and Korea. My last combat tour was in Iraq 2005-2006. After my last tour, I was inexplicably PCS'd to Ft Sill to be the 1SG for a BOLC II company. Upon arrival, I quickly realized that the inmates were in charge of the asylum and I went to Post Strength Management and told them to pound sand - I wasn't gonna do it. I wound up in charge of the instructor cadre company on the BCT side of Sill. It turned out to be a great assignment, because the BDE Commander wanted someone to update the BCT range complex. It was VERY satisfing bringing ranges rooted in '50's doctrine up to the current standard.

Since retiring, I've piddled around working because I want to, not because I have to. As long as I make enough to keep me in cool toys and good bourbon, I'm happy.

My AR10A4 Carbine replaces an accurate, but finnicky M1A. So far it's got abot 500 rounds down the pipe. It's wearing an ACOG TA01 NSN that was left over from a previous deployment. It was initally just a "place holder" til I could buy another scope but I've had no issues with it, so it's going to stay. Right now, I've saving for a Noveske 18" upper (I might go 21", they're the same price, so I dunno.) I was a little concerned about the 16" barrel. Prior to this, the shortest I was willing to go was 18" because I was concerned about having enough length for proper powder burnoff. Then it dawned on me that the Mk17 has a 16" barrel, so I stopped worrying about it so much. I'm more than happy with the accuracy of this stick. With commercial ammo, it shoots 1.75" consistantly. With my handloads, it'll do 1.35-1.5 with boring regularity. What really impressed me was the quality of the trigger - very smooth, very crisp. I've put about 500 rounds through it with nary a hiccup.

All in all, I'm happy with the rifle and I hope to add to the discourse of the forum.

Welcome, and congrats on the AR10A4 Carbine. It's the short brother of my AR10A4BF, and it does what I want it to, so 'nuff said.

Severe case of ACOG envy here!
