I'm a proud new owner of AR-10A4 7.62 and am looking to outfit it with a decent scope. Have looked at trijicon ACOG and leupold Mark 4LR/T. Both have been recommended. Am not looking for close in work. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site and you have a good choice of rifle there.

To better help figure out what type of scope you might want, lets figure out a few other things first...

You state it is not for close in work.

How far out are you looking to get?
What is the primary use of the rifle? (target, hunting)
What ammo are you going to be useing? (bullet grain)
What type of shooting will you be doing? (bench, prone, off hand)
What type of budget are you going to be working with?

Answers to these will most likely bring up others but at the same time, help figure what type and power of scope you might want.

Thanks for the response mrraley. I have a supply of 150 grain win. so I figured I would shoot them up. Plan to use the rifle for target shooting although I am a hunter. (Like my rem 270 bolt and lever action 308 browning for hunting) I am not a dedicated marksman and do not belong to a club or shoot at a range. Most of my shots come from the hood of a pickup, the rest of a deer stand, or a free standing shot. Would like a scope for use at 200-400 yards and in low light conditions. I would spend 1000 bucks if I need to. My primary go to gun now is a bushmaster XM15-E2S with an eotech scope and I sure like it.

I have also been looking at various scopes for my new ar-10a4. I am by no means an expert. But I do spend quite a bit of time researching potential purchases. While the scopes you listed are fantastic scopes for sure, one brand you may want to look at is the SWFA SS rifle scope. You can find them at SWFA.com. Go to the SWFA SS section and check them out. There are many top rated websites that have done reviews on this brand, including Snipershide.com. They are cheaper then many of the top brands out there. And preform just as well, if not better then some of the scopes you listed. Plus they have a selection that is pretty good, depending on your needs. Hope this gives you some help.

Personally I like scopes with ranging reticles, such as Mil-dots, Mil-lines, or MOA lines. I do not like the ballistic drop reticles, because you can not range unknown distant targets with them very well.

If going with one of these reticles, I would find a scope that has matching elevation and windage knobs. Meaning if you get a mil-dot scope, make sure it comes with Mil adjustment knobs and not MOA. Why? Because when you see a shot that is 2 Mils low, you can dial up 2 Mils and hit your target, instead of thinking and doing the math on how many MOA you need to dial up.

Some that I would recommend:

Weaver Grand Slam tactical ($299 on sale at Midway). Has Mil-dots and Mil knobs.

SWFA Super Sniper ($299 to $799, depending on model). Great scope. I started out shooting long range with this scope.

Nightforce with NP-R1, Mil-Dot or MLR reticle. ($1400 to $2100, depending on model and features) These are awesome scopes. I've got 3 of them. The NP-R1 reticle is an MOA based reticle, the other 2 are MIL. I recently picked up a new 5.5-22x50 with hi-speed turrets, zero-stop, and MLR reticle. This thing is awesome! The hi-speed turrets are amazing! I can dial up my turrets with only 1/2 a turn to get to 700 yards, instead of the 1 whole turn it takes on the original turrets.

I had a Leupold Mark 4, but ended up selling it to help pay for the new Nightforce. It was a good scope, but I like the features that come with the Nightforce a lot better.

Here's a picture of the new Nightforce on my bolt gun:
