I am new to this weapon and I am thinking about getting the .308 version with a 16 inch barrel. I am looking at a stock model. My question is do I need to be worried about accuracy with only having a 16 in barrel? I appreciate all the help you can give a rookie.
Who said the 16" barrels are inaccurate. Benchrest barrels are short and fat. Accuracy is the name of the game. We aint speer chuckers around here. If it wont hold a MOA 5 round group send it back. Thats 1.047 center to center.MSH
WHAT....I am with MSH...on that....I have a A4 CB and I have pulled down sub MOA at 100 yards....and almost a "0" MOA a few times...of course my level of shooting...I haven't done it repeatedly...well same target...but I can take a sight in target and put one dam near on each center...so 16" being accurate...check the Gallery under Targets....that will give you some idea...that was sighted in with Hornady 168gr A-Max...match.
So who or whom ever said that you can't get accuracy with a carbine length barrel...well...I will be nice...wait till curx catches wind of this one....LOL

Why blow all your money on a 'complete rifle'. The AR10/15's are gadget guns. just buy the upper, slap it on and go shooting. If you want a carbine stock you'll need a special tool to put it on. And, yes you can do this!!

Going against what was said, but I know it was said before....going with a complete rifle give you a better piece of mind....and less head aches in the beginning.....and the warranty...it would be a better route the first go round...I think...for what it is worth...

As you have an ArmaLite rifle, Go to ArmaLites website
www.armalte.com/
click on upper receivers and parts to find the upper your looking for. For the carbine butt stock look for lower receivers and parts. You'll also need a special wrench to install the butt stock. In the box marked search put in tools. but to be honest not everyting is were it suppose to be, so your search may take a while in other parts of their web site. So you understand something straight up, unlike the AR-15, the AR-10 receivers don't interchange with some other brands unles they say so. That's why in Brownell's catalogue they put the AR-10 in the catagory of 'AR 308 style rifles'. Armalite sells to other companys one being DSG Arms, when you get there look in the search box put armalite. Do't expect any cost breaks as they sell stuff at the same cost as Armalite. Parts & tools Recap: 'ArmaLite',
'DSG arms', and Brownell's. Good luck in your quest,
Tom
