My name is Matthew Courtey. I am an NRA Instructor and Training Counselor in all 3 Firearms Disciplines, as well as a Regional Counselor for the NRA Refuse to be a victim program. I run a non-profit, Louisiana Shooters Unlimited, which is dedicated to teaching personal safety as well as firearms safety and marksmanship skills.

My quest to find an accurate, reliable .308 caliber rifle in an easily carried configuration(8 LBS, 36 INCH OAL, MAX) has brought me here, as a few AR-10's with 16-18 inch barrels and collapsable stocks seem to meet those criteria.

Well, today I jumped the shark and ordered a Bushmaster ORC. My uderstanding is that it is essentially a DPMS style build with a 16 inch chrome lined barrel and an off the rack collapsable stock. OAL is 33-37 inches and weight is 7 3/4 pounds. With a Trijicon Reflex II and BUIS, it should be a great CQB gun that can reach out and touch someone in a pinch. Once I get the sights set up, I can sort out what I need with respect to a cheek peice.
