Good Afternoon Everybody,
I have an AR10T that is around 2 years old,and for optics I have a Leupold VX7L 4.5-18x56. I can not get this rifle to group any better than 4" at 100 yards. I have taken it to gunsmiths and have spent countless hours at the range with factory and hand loads and can not get any improvment at all. The only variable is that I sent this rifle out to have it factory camo'd before I even put a scope on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jody most likely its the barrel or crown. Did you have anyone borescope it. I'm not sure who's barrel is being used but it will be the lowest bidder. One other thing is that the receiver face might be out of squire. The phosphate coating doesn't go on evenly. Most of the time it is a bab barrel. This is to assume that you used good ammo and I trust you did with the hand loads. Get a pro to borescope the barrel. Then make a call on it.MSH

I will admit I don't know much about barrels, except which end to point at what I want to shoot...., but I can tell you that MSH knows what he is talking about....trust me on that...You may consider sending him yours to look at or maybe even buying one from him...he will set you up RIGHT!!!! ;)

Let me clear up some things on these rifles and this will help all to understand the system.
First these are gas assisted to the minor degree bolt rifles. That being said they are no different than a 700 Rem in function of a rotating bolt. They are using some gas at the 20000psi position to opperate thr action. With the .116 avg of the gas tube and the tube length you have a gas pressure of beteen 4000 and 6000 psi opperating the action which aint much. You dont apply that much force in manual opperation of both actions.
2nd these rifles can and do get 1/4 MOA accuracy with the right work up process. Apply money. At school I teach the easy hand tool 1/2 MOA method. As much as you all hear me fuss about the companys and parts out there a good build program is needed to get the accuracy. It aint rocket science but a misstep means 1/2 inch on paper. The 2 biggest things that hurt accuracy that is not looked at is the stocks and the trigger systems. These are combat rifles that are in 2 pieces. They are not rock solid and made to shoot off a bench. The parts used dictate the feel and accuracy to the user. All of os are diferent shapes and that is important to remember on builds. So the setup is the 2nd key step.MSH
