The port should be enlarged but I squeezed buy with my set up. Cobb makes a 30-06 and 300 Mag unit but they are high cost.MSH

Cobb can be found at
www.ar15pro.com/.../63178_Cobb_Multi-caliber_300_S.aspx
The actions are aluminum. As far as a 300 being assembled an Armalite is the better bet because of the magizine rake angle. DPMS is not a good idea. The gold triggers seem to be very good and expenesive.MSH

If you were building an extremely overbored ar10 say, a .25 pronghorn (300 wsm case necked down to .25 caliber) would it be prudent to extend the gas port similar to the amount recommended for a .260 AR10, I think someone said 5 inches? Or just leave it the same and adjust using a gas block?

Say it was a 24'' barrel also....and 80-90 grain bullets.

The gas port should be located where there is 19500psi. Thats what it takes to cycle the action. So you need a balistic program to get the bullet travel to pressure location. Each round IE 243,260,300WSM
all have a good spot but the 300WSM has a point of no return on length to pressure curb. So were kind of stuck on that one or we go to long on the gas tube. That 25 speedgoat is a barrel burner. The 6.5-300 I shot for 1000yd competition was good for 1000 rds and the barrel was a wash.msh

I originally thought about 6.5 but I am buliding for speed and I liked the larger selection of sub 100 grain bullets for the 25 cal.

so according to quickload with 70.5 grains of VV550 I am at 65243psi chamber.

the bullet exits the muzzle with 14700psi with this load

and @ 22'' it is at 20600psi.

with a rifle length + 5 thats what 17'', pressure is 27004psi

Side note took an idea from snipershide and have been, shooting 208amax @ 2600fps out of my ar10 with 48gr of RL17 and chamber pressure of 70500psi and at 12'' it says there is 18000psi. Granted my quickload is using a 203 gr barnaul instead of the hornady 208. Needless to say I dropped back to 46 grains in my 308 and I have the gas block adjusted down alot, won't even cycle "regular" ammo. Funny thing is at 48 grains it was just showing the extractor marks in the base of lapua brass.

So would you say a sweet spot is where the gas port is just getting enough to cycle? maybe a little extra? It seems you could extend that baby out there quite aways with this round...
