Everything seems fine but short of sending it off to Armalite, my only option seems to be, start swapping parts. First of all, has anyone had any luck mailing a malfunctioning gun to Armalite? Any horror stories?
Secondly, as someone suggested, I am thinking of trying a new extractor. Besides the factory extractor... Is there a (better) alternative?
Until you scope the chamber and prove otherwise, it is the likeliest problem. Sometimes the smallest defect will cause this kind of problem, so off you go to the LGS. They should be able to scope it and polish out anything they find for less than 50.00. Please keep us updated.
How many rounds fired in the ten years you've owned it?
There's a good chance you just need some basic maintenance if the round count is high, like a fresh extractor, gas ring, and some new springs all around.
Looking forward to hearing what it takes to get her back up to speed. :usa:
After looking at the pictures closely, it looks like there might be some excessive wear on the extractor. Take a look at the edge closest to the top of the bolt. There look to be some shiny spots there. Remove the extractor and take a look at the underside of the edge that engages the case rim. If there's a burr on that edge, the rims of the cases could be hanging up on it and thus not getting ejected properly.
