I'm new to the AR-10 world. Just getting used to the up-sized receiver-thing.
Does anyone have a source for magazine specs or blueprints for GenI Armalite mags? I have a plethora of good M-1A mags that I'd like to convert, since they're all a bit scarce & expensive right now. The CnC machinist I have doesn't want to measure by hand and screw them up.
Go to Armalites web site and check their tech sheets. I think their is some data in there. Also one of the really experienced guys on this web site will probably give you a direction to go. Good luck.
I checked out that thread. His project was with GenII mags. They were redesigned to be more like AR-15 mags. ArmaLite sells a parts update kit for the new "universal" GenII mags. Outside of availability issues, I don't see a benefit to one or the other. Given the current political situation and my inventory, I'm glad I got an old one. It was purely coincidence. One responder said he was inletting M-1A's by hand, but I don't want to ruin what I've got. Might not find 'em again. Thanks.
During the other ban, it took a lot of measuring and a lot of messed up mag bodies before they were figured out to be just right.
The hardest part about converting the M-1 mags is getting the mag release hole cut on the left side of the mag body so it holds it at the correct level.
It might take me a bit, but I will look to see if I have a copy of the print with the measurements on it.
Other than the mag release hole... the other thing you have to keep into concideration is that the way the follower is designed, it will not hold the bolt open after the last round is fired. To some this is not a big deal, to others, it is. Just something to think about.

At one time, didn't Armalite offer modified followers for folks wanting to mod their M14 mags?
