Thanks Moby,
That is a great article. I never cared much for steel cased ammo but they make a good argument why it might be a worthwhile look. Especially if you are going to be changing your extractor and barrel more often.

About as well done test as you will find. My gut feeling has always been to shoot what the firearm was designed for. This just reinforces that.

Outstanding information Moby. Makes me glad I decided AGAINST the steel stuff right from the start. Thank you Sir..

My Armalite manual that came with my AR 10 said if I use steel cases or reloaded cases it voids my warantee. I think it's just legal talk but I only use manufactures ammo anyway.

Great test, I hate steel cased stuff and made that mistake once. With what I have invested in my weapons, a few cents per round doesn't save me anything. considering I can't reload the steel cases, it may even cost more over the long run.

I think another factor would be that since steel cases tend to be quite a bit cheaper, it would actually ACCELERATE the destruction of your rifle due to the fact that with cheaper ammo, you'll probably shoot more each time you go... :(

Not me pal. Mine has gotta last forever cuz I don't have money laying around for spare uppers and barrels and heck, we may not even be able to BUY em before too long so it's nothing but brass for me...

One point, that is kind of misleading about it all. It's not the case that does the damage to the barrel. The accelerated wear came from the jacket material and the propellant used. Even though it is non-corrosive, low quality powders can be very abrasive. Both of these components, Bi-metal jackets and crap powder can be found in imported BRASS cased ammo too.
Read up before you buy.

Six months ago I would have suggested getting a cheaper AK derivative if you wanted something to shoot cheap steel cased ammo, but even those are $1500 now if you can find any. I would like to see a test on some of the cheaper foreign brass cased ammo you can get. Except it is probably a moot point, since I suspect that will be restricted as well. If I was a US ammo manufacturer, I would use the current political state of affairs to try to lock out foreign competition. Lets see what happens.
As far as my equipment, nothing but US brass with copper jacketed bullets.
