Hello everyone,
I'm new to this site and sure I've got a ton of stuff to learn, so please cut me some slack when I screw up a little.
Let me just say I'm a NRA life member and belong to several of our local guns clubs here in New Jersey as well.I love to hunt, shoot and be in the outdoors.
I'm brand new to owning an Armalite AR -10 and have tons of questions.
First I haven't actually received the rifle yet.(The NICS) check is so far backed up it's taking 3-4 days minimum to get a response back from them.)
Where is a good place to buy decent ammo that won't break the bank? What grain bullet?Basically I'll be doing target shooting and plinking.
What are some good places to buy accessories too?
The gun came with green handguard and stock and to me looks terrible, but when it's the last one on the shelf,ya get what ya get. Thanks for any and all help. It will be greatly appreciated.
WOW. Lots and lots of questions. First off, please spend some time reading. Use the index tab above and it will guide you to many "specialized" sections of the forum on scopes, handguards of all types, stocks, everything the new owner should read. Most of your questions are all answered right there already and all you have to do is pic a section and start figuring out what will work for you and then we'll help you "tweak it" from there.
Ammo sales are currently going absolutely crazy all over the country right now so it is kind of a hunt just to find the stuff you like, can afford AND a company that is taking orders but they are out there - sites like Bulk Ammo, Discount Ammo, Midway Arms and the like.
When it comes to grain, we have some super gurus on here that will help you nail it down to what will be best later on but for now, it's a matter of finding what you rifle LIKES. I've shot everything from 150s up to 180s and had great success with everything I've put through it but I prefer to stay away from steel casings and I'm also not a "shoot a dime at 1000 yards" kinda guy so I'm pretty much happy getting em into the 5X on my human silhouette targets at any given distance and I can do that with almost anything.
If you use the links you see on the forum page, it should take you to places that will have virtually everything you need to set your rifle up any way you want it to be but like I said, read some of the different topics we have here before deciding and then shoot out any specific questons you may have once you've narrowed things down a bit so our "gurus" can help you better.
Again, welcome and enjoy the site. We sure do like to see new faces and new rifles on our site.
Seriously, welcome to the site. As Sharkey said, there's a ton of material on here that'll help you with the care and feeding of your AR10. I'd also recommend perusing the library section's tech notes on the Armalite website. When you get the rifle, clean the preservative out of it, use a GENEROUS amount of lube on the BCG and you shouldn't have any issues. Enjoy those 10 round magazines, LOL.
Inexpensive and .308 ammo don't really belong in the same sentance
For plinking and just having fun with it, get the cheapest BRASS cased FMJ ammo you can stand. Privi Partisan is a popular practice ammo. you should hold 3-4moa with it if you do your part and save the brass for reloading. Like 11B said, clean it really good and run it wet. When you get ready to tighten up those groups and stretch out the distance, we can help you with that too.
