Hello All, I'm new to the AR10 Field and have a question for you. I'm thinking about trading my S.A.M1A for a AR10. I'm not familiar with the AR10's. Is this a good trade as far as quality and performance? The M1A is a awesome shooter and I have never had any issues with it. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks Scott in CT.
In my extremely bias opinion I would want the ArmaLite. As far as fair value goes they both have lots of different models so cash value is hard to compare here.

As for the SA M1A, I had a National Match and thought it was great; it was the rifle I started with in Nam. The little AR that was thrust upon us seemed worthless at the time and at first it showed itself to be just that!
About 10 years ago I found the National Match grabbed it off the gun rack and home we went. What I had forgotten was the “weight” of the rifle and the years that had passed between Nam and “humping” the M1A dressed with a hi-power scope, as a somewhat older person then the well muscled young man I was.
Now to your question, as with any rifle or anything else you are going to get what you
pay for. The AR-10 or SR-25 or whatever letters you put in front of 308 win./7.62 x51,
semi-auto is or can be a rifle that will out shoot 98% of the people that pull the trigger.
Depending on how you configure the rifle you can cut a good bit of weight off the 9.8lbs
of the undressed M1A and be just as; if not more accurate!
This is my POF p308/7.62 x 51 first round is cold & clean top center red 300 yards, second after three rounds, warm & fouled bottom left. It’s weight 8.9 without scope.
Take the rifle down to a 16” barrel put on a club foot stock, remove the hi-power scope
and replace with say a sniper type 10 power. You have a perfect deer or mid size game
hunter. I am not pushing the POF it’s cost is mid hi, but it is one of the best running and most accurate weapons I have ever owned. I would stay away from the lower end rifles in
the AR-10 they may go bang, but if you take pride in your abilities as a riflemen look before you leap. I hope this helps, I traded my M1A and have never looked back!
Jake
