New to 223 loading.Rifle AR-15.Bullet weights 60 to 75grs. Powder available-Varget,TAC,H335,4064 and BL-C2. Can anyone recommend a favorite powder for this combination-before I pursue load development.Thank You.
I've used Varget, H335, and BL-C2 for .223/5.56. Of the three, I prefer H335.
I worry about compressed loads with Varget with anything over 55 gr, just from the amount of space a charge of Varget takes up in the case, since it's a stick powder vice spherical. BL-C2 is a good GP powder for pretty much any rifle round except belted magnums, but I think it burns dirtier than the others.
I just made 50 rounds with IMR XBR 8208. I'll post results in the near future.
I had the same concern with varget in 223 I still use it exclusively with 55grn vmax for vermin eradication, but I haven't loaded any 223 for a couple years as I'm still sitting on 600 out of my last batch. Been concentrating on the AR10, having found a place to stretch it's legs.
