Have had my AR10 for about two years and never shot it. Don't shoot a lot except in deer season which opened two weeks ago. Decided to get it out and use it this year as was having issues with my go to rifle. Got a Zeiss 3.5x 10x 50 conquest scope mounted. Well, it took me nearly two boxes of ammo to get it sighted in. Seemed like once I was sighted in after a couple rounds it would move on me. This happened several times but finally got a tight group and has been accurate since. Just can't figure why it was difficult to get it sighted initially.
Although I never experienced this with my AR-10 I have seen pistols change point of impact as they break in. Just a thought, others may have a checklist for you..
JT hit the nail on the head....being it has never been shot or hardly shot..
The bore is still new...(though my next statement is highly debated, it is fact) The average break-in for the barrel is around 500 rounds depending.
Now some say differently but from my experience it is KEY to use the break-in method in the owner's manual if you want a True Break-in...
Ammo can also play a part in all of this...Low end or basic ammo can very in your POI...I would suggest buy some top end ammo...Hornady 168 A-max and put at least 100 rounds through it and follow the Manual's break in procedures..
Again...just my opinion.. :twocents:
