I am new to the ar10, any info would be appreciated....i am looking at picking up an ar10 w/ a 20" barrel. Suppose to have less than 500 than rds through it, factory buffer has been replaced w/ a hydraulic buffer. I have several 5.56 rifles and wanted to get something w/ more knock down power. I have been looking for several weeks and found this rifle for $1000. Seems like a good price, comes through w/ a bipod & a 100 rds of ammo. What should i look for when i am looking this thing over tomorrow. Thanks!
Just as with any used gun man close eye the details make sure nothing is bent check bolt for wear work the action, is it clean. How many mags are you getting.
Welcome aboard the the buffer is a good mod, I really like mine clams the girl down to a good slap rather a punch with the fist.
If you can take it to a range ever better before you buy, if not a grand is a good buy on that rifle, she will drive tack out a long way.
It comes with one ten rd mag, just grabbed my bore light. I won't be able to take it to the range, wish i could. Hopefully the gun is what he says it is. I will have plenty of time to look it over though. What would be a good 20 rd mag to buy?
Well there you are looking at Armalite site they are only ones that fit. Unless you want to rework M14. While they are on the high side they are very good and will last. I started with a five pack but start where you can
$1000 sounds like a fair price for what you're getting. Pull the handguards off and check the gas tube/gas block for streaks of soot. Check the gas key screws for tightness and staking. Look inside the upper receiver for gouges and unusual wear marks. Check the firing pin tip. Check the charging handle for bends, dents, dings, or burrs along the edges. If all that checks out, it should be GTG. A question I would ask the seller is why he's selling the rifle in the first place.
Get a warranty if everything checks out (-agree: above) what have you decided?Never had much luck asking why your selling, leaves to much room for for deceit, but may also tell you a whole lot about who your dealing with
I plan on breaking it down and inspecting it. Are the handguards hard to get off or is there a trick that makes them easier to remove? I know my Colt hand guards are a pain to remove. The guy that I am getting it from has 4 other ar rifles and he lives in an area that does not have a lot room for him to run the ar10, can only shoot at around 100-150 yards and his other rifles (5.56,6.8,7.62x39 & a blackout) are good to that distance plus some. He has positive feedback on the board the gun was listed on. I ck'd his profile comments, all were good going back 5 yrs.. Thanks for the info., I am looking forward to seeing it in a couple of hours. I will put some pics up if I get it.
If they are factory handguards, they will come off just like the Colt, mine come off really easy, just pull back and pop them out, but sometimes it easier with two people. Good luck and I think that is a really sweet price
