Joined to get a better idea of what folks are doing with the AR-10 platform.

I have a couple of Garands, a couple of M1 Carbines, M1A, and a slew of AR-15 types, one of which has a 7.62x39 upper. I also have a .308 DPMS upper that is waiting for a Colfax 80% lower** which I will need to machine to finish. Did one for a friend of mine and he loves it, so decided to build one for myself.

Belong to Black Creek Shooter's Assoc. just outside of Richmond.

** Colfax 80% lower: anyone else here build a rifle up from one of those??

I've never run across Colfax. Where are they made? And who does your anodizng?

Welcome to the site.


Colfax is located in Redmond, OR. Not sure who does their forgings and initial machining. They come black anodized.

They are not a lower that can be immediately assemble, therefore no FFL transfer is required. They have no serial number.

They come to you 80% complete and you have to do the final machining to complete it.

With all the toys you've got bud, I don't think you have to worry about being any kind of a pain. Gonna get a lotta requests for photos though. :)
