I have recently purchased an Armalite AR-10 w/ an AAC 762 SD suppressor. Instead of buying 20 rounds of each different kind, i wanted to first ask all of you. So if anyone has any experience with suppressed AR-10's please put in your 2 cents. Also whats the best way to clean a suppressor?
Well since not many people probably run can's on their AR10's i will do the honorable thing and buy a bunch of different types of ammo and give a small review on what i consider to be the best. granted this will not be a very Hi-tech review, simply just my own personal judgement at 100yds. 2 key factors being grouping and silence. Jams and MF will be recorded as well. I will start with 6 different types of random 308 that i come across. If anyone has a certain type of ammo in mind send me a link to where i can buy it and ill try it out and review it.
JT is spot on. The best ammo to use is good ol' 147 gr NATO to establish a baseline of performance for your can. You can expect a POA/POI shift (it varies from rifle to rifle) from your unsupressed BZO.
I usually don't attempt to clean the interior of my supressors; I wipe down the exterior and I'm done with it. I'm certain AAC sent guidance for care along with the supressor. Enjoy!
Thanks guys i will attempt to find some 147 gr. But im curious wont that still break the sound barrier. Im on a mission to find the round that makes the least amount of noise. I do understand what you are saying about establishing a baseline. I just want to be quiet
What you're looking for is subsonc 308. Good luck, finding that stuff commercially is a pretty steep hill to climb. The only folks I know of are Precision Weapons LLC. However, if you handload...
Bear in mind you're going to lose A LOT of MV and, concurrently, range.
Yep hand loads are the best cheapest way to go, and really the way you want to do it so you can find the best load for your rifle.
You want to be just a tick under ye old sound barrier for the best results.
Now if you don't I am petty sure you can go spend some time with ones of the guys at the gun show that bring in hand loads for sale and that person may already have a good ideal where to start.
I don't where you live so I am not sure this advice will do you any good, but you did say for us to put in our 2 cents, which I think is a high price for advice that is not much good Just saying
Here is one source,
www.precisionweapons.com/prod-586.htm
, pricey but they say they have them in stock. Here is another that is even higher priced,
www.srtarms.com/ebr.htm
. Here is a link to some Cor-Bon,
www.ammunitiontogo.com/product_info.php/...762-nato-match-grade
, this seems to be as cheap as it comes and Cor-bon seems to have a decent reputation. I have not personally purchased from any of these dealers so I can't vouch for them.
Sure wish I could play quietly with my AR-10 but Iowa seems to think only a criminal could want a supressor! Best of luck!
Criminals are the reason I got a supressor in the first place. If someone breaks into my house in the middle of the night, I don't want to wake my wife up from the gunfire.
