hi my name is chris dawe i joined today to get more info on my new ar10 in 308/7.62.........i live in newhampshire ....was shooting last week and found my new ar10 to be jammimg after about 40 rounds...the rifle got a lil hot .....the new round goin in was jamming ...i called armalite they said to run mobil 1 and it will take 300 to 500 rounds to break in.....IS THIS NORMAL......????rifle shoots real nice other than that!!!! just curious im running it wet with mobil 1 now ...will this issue go away??? im using federal 168 hpbt sierra match ......any suggestions????? thanx!!!!

Your post begs a couple of questions.

- Was this the first range session you had with the rifle?

- How much experience do you have with AR-type rifles?

ARs run best with a lot of lube on the bolt/bolt carrier. With little to no lube, the rifle will choke within 100 rounds or so.

AR10s are built pretty snug, so it'll take a couple hundred rounds or so for everything to "wear in" properly. A generous amount of lube on all moving parts is the rule of thumb with all AR-type rifles, regardless of caliber.

I have to agree on most of it....Except the Lube on the bolt...I think it really comes down to what one uses...
Mobil One....I have heard of that before...I guess in an emergency I would..
I have used the Mil-Comm products ever since I got my AR-10...I read about it in one of the gun mags I was doing research on ARs before I bought mine...
In my opinion, the TW25B gun grease is the best thing...they use it in the Dillon M-134...that works for me...I do use just a drop of the MC-2500 Semi Oil on the bolt if mine has set for a long time...the two works great...I have had sand, dirt, and all the fun things on the farm blow in the receiver and still have not had an issue...

Some folks have had good luck with RemOil, but I'm not one of them. RemOil burns off much too quickly in an AR for my tastes. If that's all you have currently, then use a liberal amount and re-lube as needed while shooting. There are much better products out besides RemOil. As BMS mentioned, there's TW25B. I've also used MPro7, SLiP 2000, FP10 and Royal Purple to good effect.

I was told to use synthetic oil also. Glad to hear Armalite advising the same. I've had no issues at all.

Hey welcome to the world that we know as the AR-10 mister. Follow tha advice of these old guys on here and you have years of fun with that shooter.

Yes 300 to 500 rounds is what we all did for break in and just a side note try not to get it to hot, and that goes for the life of the gun. Just remember (the hotter she gets the more lube you going to need)and this baby girl is not self lubing :evil: .
