This is my first AR-10. I performed the pre-use cleaning and lube and now I am ready to go to the range. I noticed that oil must have made it's way into the lower receiver from the bolt area because it is seeping through some of the pins. Is this ok? Was this by design? I was thinking I could spray brake clean into the lower receiver and flush out the oil. Is there already some lubricant in the lower receiver that will be flushed out also?
First off...Welcome to the Site, and congratulation on your first AR-10...is it an ArmaLite...I like to ask to be sure on any future question...some call any .308 an AR-10...no matter really...
To answer your question...It is not an issue...it happens with all ARs..if they are prepped right at the factory...these rifles are made then sit till the order comes in for them...so they may sit for some time...depending.
They are oiled at the factory almost to excess for that reason...There is no need for concern...if it is an issue for you...simply take a can of compressed air and blow it downwards to remove the excess...you do want a little bit of oil in the lower receiver to lube the parts..the excess will in time make it's way out...simply wipe it off as it presents itself...DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER..to remove the excess...it leaves a film that will negate any lube you use in the future...I personally use a "gun grease" on my AR-10 A4 CB...Mil-comm products to be exact...TW25B Gun Grease...you will find that the lube you use will come down to what you Prefer....
Hope it helps...oh and make sure you have a Tad bit of Oil in the Buffer Tube....
BUILDING MY SASS....
Thank you so much. I have a AR-10T with an Aero lower end. I installed backup iron sights and I am waiting for my backordered scope. My sight adjustment tool is on the way and when it gets here, I will break-in the barrel while I sight in the irons. I like the SASS but it was unavailable so good luck with yours.
Your welcome, any time....Yours sounds quite nice...look forward to seeing a pic or two...
As for mine...It isn't a SASS, well not the real one...Hence my user name...
but it is to me...LOL...
