Howdy! New to this forum and new to ar10's. I'm currently in the market for an Armalite ar10 but haven't decided what I'm going to purchase yet. I'm not looking to get into much long range shooting just wanting a 308 semi auto in the ar platform that is accurate but still nimble enough to carry as personal defense and also hunt with it. My father is a firearm's dealer so I get everything at wholesale cost. He currently has an ar10a4F with green furniture that I'm looking at but also might look into the exclusive that RSR has in the a4 with the 20" match barrell and trigger with black furniture and standard a2 style foregrip and buttstock. My question is should I get the one with the match barrell for another $150 and upgrade to a free floating foregrip and magpul retractqble buttstock or stick with the standard a4 with forward assist with the same accessories. The RSR exclusive is 2 pounds heavier than the a4f and the match barrell is threaded unlike the ar10t models. The weight difference is something I don't like but would be nice to have that extra .5-1" less MOA. Let me know what you guys think.
The 10A4BF (black version of your 10A4F) was my first, and I dearly love the thing. It knocked my HK91 into a cocked hat! So we got a 10NMFA too.
Each configuration has its advantage in maneuverability, weight and accuracy. So the end user must decide what's most important. Or just go ahead and get two or three of them, you won't regret it .
I'm biased toward Armalite for many reasons. They will be around long after the also-rans are forgotten.
Welcome to the site...I have to say I think I may be able to help...given what you stated...I think the Carbine length would fit your needs...Dead on accuracy at closer ranges and acceptable at longer ranges...You might see if they have any AR-10T Carbines left or if they are going to make any...that would give you the accuracy of the SS barrel but the maneuverability of the 16" carbine for tight quarter hunting or defense...but if just plain ol hit it and be done with it...
then I would suggest something like mine...A standard AR-10 A4 C...I have hit Pin point at 100 yards and Made my targets at 400. As for the accessories...now we are getting to the tough questions...what works for one...is not always good for all..
It becomes very personal...As for Free Float vs Non FF...well if you are shooting matches at 500 yards and then some...I would say yes...if a Tactical Ap is more to your interest then No...it won't make that much difference...as for hunting...well you hit an animal at 2 to 300 yards with a .308...it is most likely going to have a bad day and not get up...no to mention anything else you hit with it....
Here are a couple of Pictures of mine...awhile back...I have since dedicated it to the scope and went to the M-15 for Home Defense and CQB...Remember there is no CQB with a .308...Only CRE...close range engagements...
I went to the 5.56 because I didn't want my round to end up at the end of the block in my neighbors house... :pinch:
I hope you will consider my words given they are base on what you stated for what you are looking for...as (again) for accessories...that is where the work comes in....
Hope to see you with one...AR stands for ArmaLite...always remember the way of the force....
You can have the best of Both Worlds...
if you equip it right.... :woohoo:

Yep what he said!!!. But I tend to use the 12 ga for close in work, it is a budget thing for me, plus I live aboard my boat. So everything up and in front of me.
I have never take'n game over a hundred yards, for a lot of reasons mainly because where I have hunted you just couldn't see them past that, and that was a long shot. Execpt for the rare time I could go Antalope hunting then it was just see how close you can get before you spook them. Even then I didn't feel good about the 150 yard shot I took and sure I would never find the darn thing. But he was laying right where I hit him.
Good luck and have fun, remember guns are like tator chips you just can't have one.
