I finally got my DPMS LR 308 in after a 9 month wait.
I am a member of several forums like AR15 ,ASSRA , home gunsmithing
,etc.
I shoot long range black powder ,and .22 silhouette matches.
Also .22 4 position rifle matches ,.22 pistol indoor matches in the winter.
I shoot IDPA pistol matches ,and trap shoot monthly.
I reload 38 different cal.from .25ACP to .300 WBY Mag.
I bought the LR308 for a longer range prarie dog rifle,as my AR15 is only good out to 250 yds .and my 300 Wby mag makes me flinch after about 50 rds.

Anyone that shoots prarie dogs with an AR-10 or a 300 Weatherby has to be alright :) I have some "varmint" loads for my 300 Rem Ultra Mag using the 110gr V-Max at 3900fps. Very effective on woodchucks! I have the same problem though, after 30-40 rounds the flinching starts

not too sure about what to make of your .223 though. i have a colt match hbar and can hit good groups at 400yd. i have a bushmaster carbine that can shoot the same distance but cannot hold groups as tight with the shorter barrel. even my sig 522 which shoots .22lr is effective and accuate at 250yd. what kind do you have?

My AR is something I built on a budget ,in 1974 ,when I was first married.
I do not remember ,ever seeing a free float barrel on an AR before ,but I had an idea ,and took a barrel nut , and silver soldered on a piece of automotive exhaust tubing. I epoxied a piece of knurled black PVC pipe over it.
I made a gas block out of round alum. stock.
It has a non-chrome lined military barrel [12 twist ?]
When in the Army ,we replaced thousands of uppers ,with the foward assist ,and [I took home a couple home with me] ,We had a scrap dumpster full !
I cut the handle ,off the upper ,and JB Welded ,and screwed on a piece of weaver scope mount on it ,and put on a Tasco world class scope ,which was new at the time 6 to 24 power ,and is so blurry over 18 x it is useless.
This rifle was a tack driver @ 100 yds ,But during the Clinton ban ,I was tired if switching parts between my CAR and this upper ,so I bought a new lower ,and had to cut the flash hider off ,and re crown the barrel.
I was never able to find another load ,that shot as well as the original
did ,with the flash hider.
When Harris bi-pods came out ,I was not able to afford one ,so I built one of those too.
I have been saving my $ and am going to Camp Perry ,and buying a varmint barrel, float tube ,and gas tube ,and going with an official upgrade.
I am going to use my old upper for now ,as i am going to try to convert to a
Side charging ,by milling a slot in the upper.and better to experiment on the old one.
If any one wants to see pics ,of one of the oldest free float AR's around ,I can take some and post them.
