Hey guys needing some info on breaking in a barrell on new armalight AR-10a4 carbine..
Just wanna make sure im gonna do it right as i get my new gun tomorrow :woohoo: , other then cleaning in between each shot for first 20-30 shots and using moly coated ammo and also letting it cool betwen each shot is there anything else? ive read past post and other sites and alot say diffrent things.. Hoping useing the moly coated ammo isnt a must cause im sure i cant find them anywhere close to where i live. Thanks for anyone to take the time to help..
I don't do break in anymore. It wont hurt anything but I stopped doing it because I can say I never noticed it helping. Your results may be different as there are still many knowledgeable shooters that do. Naturally, the ritual is as different as a fingerprint and so are the claimed benefits.
I will say that I stopped using moly because it has been reported to be harmful. Molybdenum disulfide is rumored to hydrate and become corrosive. As with all things related to firearms, that is also disputed. There are still ammo manufacturers, like norma, that continue to claim significant improvement to barrel life when using moly. I have not yet found any irrefutable evidence that can give a timeline, or conditions as to the extent of any damage occurring to a rifle barrel from using moly.
In the end, after weighing the pros & cons of messing with moly, the decision I came to was that I do not want it to be MY barrel that was ate up to confirm it.
