Greetings,
Does anybody have a nice birch or walnut rifle they would like to refinish? I have a Tung Oil Kit, 100% pure raw tung oil, no additives, no yellowing, no cracking, $15, I'll pay postage.
I have a jug of tung oil. I was going to try to refinish a rifle stock, didn`t have much luck with it. It seemed the tung oil wanted to sort of ball up or something after several coats. Might be I tried to rub in too much.
Maybe the rifle had been previously finished with boiled linseed oil.
I finally got a finish on it but not as nice as I had wanted.
My son, on the other hand had done a refinish on another of My rifles using tung oil and it looks great. :cowboy:
Sorry to hear MrMarty51,
The same thing applies to linseed oil.
I know little to nothing about this subject other than to repeat what the kit told me.
The "ball up" sounds to me like the oil can't get into the pores of the wood, usually because there is some sort of finish long worn off but still clogging the pores. IDK
Good luck if you sort of take on the dragon and try again.
