I bought 2 ar10s, 308's. Had both rebarreled with broughton barrels,18 in. and 23 in. Heavy.
Went through the barrel breakin process.
Now have around 200 rounds through each.
Both rifles will only group 3 to 2.5 in.
After 125 rounds, I began to get a few 1.5 in groups, then back to larger groups. 5 shot groups.
many times first round hits dead on.
Sometimes the rounds group as if climbing a ladder? 3 to 5 inches.
Have tried 2 different high dollar scopes, no change.
Ammo, 3 different factory match ammo's plus many other factory ammo's, 165 to 175 gr.
Also, reloads. 175 / 168 HPBT with varget, different loads and bullet seating depths.
No matter the type of ammo, I still get the same results.
My thoughts might be the barrel is not torqued correctly???
Or, anything else???
Both rifles are doing the same thing, same gunsmith???
Well all i have to say is that MSH is the man for the job on this one!!! i want to hear what he thinks it is. Sorry the only thing i would think is that the crowns might be messed up, but then you first shot would not be dead on and they prolly wouldn't look like the holes are climbing a ladder. My only guesses would be that the torque on the barrel or the receiver is out of square. Again these are JUST guesses.
Thanks for answering this so quickly.
-floating barrels, yes, on each, Larue floating tube.
-Trigger on one is the Armalite match triger. the other has a stock trigger that has been polished.
-Receiver squared ? don't know?
Get your receiver squired first, bore scope the barrel and at the crown area. The gas tube should be a non binding slip in fit. The barrel nut should clear the barrel dia. For starters.MSH

I will pass this on to the gun smith tomorrow. If this gun smith does not fix the problem, I understand
you are a gun smith? And work on ar-10's? If so, I may want to send you a couple of ar-10's.
Have you heard anything about, you know who, signing some international treaty about us having to surrender
our weapon's? I just heard this a couple hours ago from a buddy of mine that works at McBrides Guns in Austin, Tx..
Thanks again.

I doubt he would think it would fly, that would be grounds for impeachment. I also would point out that fits the predication for (Conspiring with foreign interests to deprive the American people of their constitutional rights). I don't see anybody in or around the white house as being that stupid.
