Barrel nut torque spec?

Maybe not exactly a new topic but needful info for me.

My AR10 clone is almost done...time to fully attach the barrel & proceed with the details. I'm ready for the "tighten three times" plan but don't know what the initial torque number should be, before the final gas tube alignment phase.
Also, is blue Loctite the appropriate goo for the barrel nut?

Thanks in advance, as always

when I teach classes, I tell everybody a minimum 45 ft lbs on the AR-10 and 90 ft lbs being the max.

All this is after you do like you said, the three times first to stretch the threads a little.

I also posted this information in the ArmaLite thread as it came straight from them...

Keep in mind,....you have a DPMS pattern rifle, not an Armalite

Cheese & Crackers!!!

Opinions on how much that fact might influence previously posted torque numbers?
Lower? How much? Uncharted territory/on my own?

I believe you should have no problem with the numbers I recommended.

Especially being the .308 platform.

On a side note, I know of another course and the one I teach use the same numbers for the M-15 series. And that's 35 to 80.

As long as you can get it to 45 or a little more, get the gap lined up for the gas tube, you'll be good.

The only reason I mentioned it was because of the issue you had with the 1st barrel.
If you drive a Chevy, make sure to tell the parts guy it's a Chevy and NOT a Ford.

Yeah, having been a parts guy for 39 years, I should know that.

Has a guy that walked into a parts stor I worked at in Montana. He wanted a fuel pump for a Chevy. Took me 30 mins to finally get the year, model and the details out of him. Had to pull a few off the shelf and show him that there were different inlet/outlet configurations
