New to the AR-10!! was created by Wade
This is the first AR=10 ive owned I love the gun. If anyone has any information that I should know, I would love to hear it. I have some questions myself... Not sure why type of stock I have, it looks adjustable but it is not and is a little short for me. Any suggestions? Is there a butt plate or some type of pad I can attach? If it helps... a picture of the gun is in my photos.

As for that rifle, That is awesome looking!
As for the stock, it should easily adjust in or out by squeezing the lever underneath and moving it in or outward.
If LOP is inadequate for you there are slip on pads available for less than $10.

Thanks for the reply bob. My lever on my stock is fixed, it is not adjustable. The lever has an allen screw through it going into the "buffer tube?" which is drilled and tapped and is the only screw hole in the tube. Unless I drill and tap another hole it is the only setting. Which I thought was odd. When I puchaed the gun I did think it was adjustable. I have also been looking around for some different recoil pad options online with no luck, but it takes me a while to find stuff on the internet at times. Again... thanks for the reply.

Post the make and model. Add a pic of the non-collapsible collapsible stock too if you can.

The guys on this forum know AR-10 type rifles inside and out. I'm sure they will be able to advise you.

This looks collapsible, it is not. I was wondering if anyone seen any like this. I talked to a guy in a gun store and he acted like he never heard of such a thing. He wanted me to bring it in to check and see if the buffer tube was millitary or civilian. {why there is a difference I don't know} All in all was wondering if this was the way is was made or if someone screwed with the firearm and the stock is not original.

The pics jive with my memory of a Colt carbine I once had. The allen screw pulls the pin so you can collapse the stock. Could it just be stuck? If it were mine I'd disassemble it and have a look.

Here's something from the Armalite FAQ:

GT-2. QUESTION: I want to replace the stock of my ArmaLite carbine and want to know if it is built with a Mil-Spec or commercial tube design.

ANSWER: ArmaLite currently uses Mil-Spec diameter receiver extensions (buffer tubes). But, previously we used commercial diameter tubes. We can’t tell what you have without knowing the tube diameter. If you tube has a diameter of 1.145 – 1.147 inches (approx) it is Mil-Spec diameter. Anything else is commercial. Note that there is a tolerance in both Mil-Spec and commercial tubes and stocks. The stock will tend to have a little play in it.

I have seen these stocks for sale on ebay. It didn't make sense to me but the seller said it was not adjustable, just looked like it. Is there some regulations somewhere against collapsible stocks? That would be my guess as to the purpose.

I measured the buffer tube with calipers and it is around 1.160 so Im guessing it is commercial. I did disassemble the stock and it is fixed. The allen screw goes through the adjust lever into the stock and a hole is drilled and tapped into the tube. Again thanks everyone. Now im on the search for a new buffer tube and stock. I don't care much for this system.

Don't be too quick to discard the existing system. Commercial does not mean inferior. If the existing buffer is good (or adequate) you could save time and money by just replacing the stock (assuming the existing buffer tube will work with it).

If you're not wedded to the collapsible stock then the fixed stock is a (marginally) less expensive option. In any case your replacement parts should constitute a matched system.

Yes true. One of the things I liked about this type of fire arm is the collapsable stock. Ill look around see what my options are. Money is always a factor as well. Im finding out these are NOT exactly and inexpensive firearm to own!
