The AR-10 chambered in .338 Federal is a small step from the standard .308 Winchester caliber. It utilizes a cartridge that is a necked up shorter version of the .308 win. What I like about the cartridge is the heavier weight bullet that is suitable for deer, bear, and elk.
I'm interested in .338 Fed too. The ballistics look good, and adding 250 ft/sec and 500 ft/lb to the .308 specs can't be a bad thing. I do wish it would hit the magic 3000 ft/sec mark, but I ain't gonna whine about it.
I was looking at an Armalite complete upper, but a complete 10T in 338 is only $450 more, so unless I find a discounted upper I'll go with the complete gun.
Ya had mine for a month now. It's devistating. The 200 g fusion rds are just great. Stop anything in its tracks! Sweet rifle and love it best perchice ever.
The recoil is very manageable, I can sit and plink gongs 300y all day the fusion rounds seem to be laser guided, joked about coming 40 degrees off target just to make sure they were not. The major down fall is the weight. At close to 14lbs w a 10rd may, the thing is a beast. Its really hard to shoulder accurately.

this is a bit old thread but here's two cents worth I have both these calibers and have no complaints then there is the 708 rem and the 338 RCM all the rounds are basic 308 length the RCM requires some bolt work it shines and is one hell of a round the 708 is also a real smoker with less recoil and better ballistics
