Looks like it caught while going into battery, maybe due to another round already in battery. Maybe due to a partial ejected case in the breach. Maybe when the BCG slide forward catching the round something happened. One things for sure its not going in now. Has this repeated since. I would take it apart and exam the BCG face and the magazine that did this, also check out the upper, and last check the chamber if you had difficulty extracting the round from battery your chamber may need some attention.
It was actually my friends friend who sent me the picture. I was thinking there might be an issue with the feed ramp catching the edge of the casing when going into battery.
Was it a reload, or a factory manufactured round? I am looking at how the bullet got shoved down the throat of the brass.Might the case mouth have been over widened with the expander ball and no crimp put on the bullet? A lot of thoughts. I am guessing it is a manufacturing defect of the cartridge, one way or the other.
