Has anyone fired an armalite ar-30 in 300wm? I am curious to know what the kick is like. I couldn't fire more than 20 rounds through my old model 70 winchester in 300wm.I love the round, but it hurts so much to shoot.I love my AR-10t that has a kick about like my bolt action .243. Had to work hard to overcome the flinch I developed shooting the model 70 bolt action 300 WM, so I don't shoot it anymore.
OK guys, Ill try to answer both questions here. First muzzle breals are pressed on or the barrels are threaded or the barrels are cut in a bayonet style lug for a quickie off and on like some cans attach.
I don't like Armalite any more because of their attitude but they have a very good clam shell break for the AR 30 and AR 50. It is contracted for them and I forgot who is making it, but I'll try to find out. I also make a break at my shop that is as good if not better. It's smaller and dosen't catch on stuff in the field. Its not for sale to plublic yet. Most of the breaks that are commonly sold do some good but they don't deliver the releif that they could. Break design should be no longer than the bullet so an air seal can be made on the bullet. That is what redirects the gas to ease the kick. So short and fat is where its at on breaks, plus a chamber three times the dia of the bullet. MSH
Thanks for very useful info. Since I am really trying to use the model 70 hunting rifle in 300 wm that I currently own rather than spend the money on an A-30, and since the muzzle brake adds the noise factor I think I am going to try the Edwards recoil reducers in the stock first, then consider the muzzle brake if recoil is still too much.
