FN announced that they will produce a semi only M249 SAW called the M249S.
They are not yet on the market.
I think the thing is pretty cool for a couple of reasons, not least of which is
its assured short production life, and collector status.
Lest you doubt that semi-auto versions of military machine guns are collectable
(and command a premium price!) check out the price and availability of pretty much any semi-auto Browning M2 .50 cal, 1919A4,
Sten closed bolt 16", closed bolt 16" M3 Grease Gun, Schmeiser MP38 or 40, or 1918 BAR. Yes, they are out there, and were pretty affordable when they were introduced, but not anymore!
I have absolutely no use for a semi-auto M-249, and I want one of the things so bad my teeth hurt!

A nice lady with LANG let me hold her M-249 at the last gun show, but I have seldom been close to belt fed anything, much less owned one. The close proximity of linked rounds gives me goose bumps!

Just to be on the safe side, I will double damm that for You. :rotfl:
We seriously need to RISE UP and demand a repeal of the Hughes Act. No reason why we shouldn't be able to buy NEW full-autos such as this. What a blast we're all missing out on. :banghead: :banghead:
