Out of curiosity I have been following a Twitter feed of a Kurd in Kobani. Right now they are the only group taking on ISIS. Men and women both are in the fight.

While in Northern Iraq in between the Gulf wars I got to know a few Kurdish Peshmerga. They assisted in providing security for our combined forces (US, British, French, Turkish) at the Military Coordination Center in Zahko. Dedicated dudes and friendly to us. If there is enough of them I'm pretty sure they could hold their own with any of the terrorists.

The Peshmerga just sent a couple hundred fighters to help out the Kurds in Kobane. More importantly, they brought some heavy weapons to offset what ISIS has brought from their captured Iraqi stocks. They are holding their own and then some.
