I will postum pics. ofum after I finish cleaning the one I have apart.
Took one apart and scrubbed it well, it was filthy, the stock looked like it had been stained then left in the sun, rifle rack, and the finish on the butt stock would rub off. I took some 400 grit sanding paper tooit then some 0000 steel wooool, a smear of walnutty stain then boiled Linseed Oil. It is looking mighty nice.
I have been saving any money I can just for this deal, I now need to get to saving up again as the same guy has two more rifles, they will probably not cost as much as this first two.
If this thread is not in the right place then, please do mooooveit.

OK, Here You go, two remingtons.
The bolt action 512, after extensively cleaning, turns out to be a very nice shooter. Never missed a lick, fired its 11 or 12 rounds without a hitch. I shot up a targut at the 25yd board with a group about as big as the bottom of the coffee can. Hey, gimmeee a break, I`m old and I do`nt see the targuts as well as when I wuz a whipper~Snapper, Can`t see the sights either so I thought I did pretty good.
The Remington model 12 was built in Auguts of 1941. It did OK, but, it started to not ejecting the casings in time, and was trying to load a booolit with the casing still half stuck in the bolt.
This morning I was watching, as I slid the action, open then closed. I removed the take-down screw and the bolt, upon inspection of the firing pin, I could see these three very distinct marks from the firing pins ejection spring, HHHMMMMmmm, seems that the spring had sort of smashed down over the years of use. I bent the spring, where it screws into the rear of the receiver, forwards a bit, then, knowing that the spring had to ride just so against the firing pin, I tweaked the end of the springs mating surface just a bit. I loaded the magazine full, went into My firing shed, popped out 11 rounds real snappy like and that ejector system is popping them empties out now. :cheers: :clap:
I think it is a reeal shooter now. :drool: :rotfl:

I forgot, the Model 12 has some sort of a home-made looking rear peep sight and the front sight has a hood built over it. I think the front sight to not be original as when I was plinking at the targut, it held its groupings within the same coffee can size of a group, so, the front sight, besides having the hood over it must be taller too.

I wnet back to the shed, in 24 rounds it had one mishap, where it did`nt eject the empty completely before trying to load in a fresh one.
I thinking a new firing pin ejector spring will be in order.Might as well replace the firing pin too, long as I am in there.
