Trout fever was created by mlotziii
It's almost opening day of trout season and I'm itching to get a line wet. Last year I did not get to go fishing much so this year I'm going to make a greater effort to get out there.

Today I got all my gear ready and went and purchased my license.

I'm going to be making a lot of videos with my GoPro camera so stay tuned.

P.S. I may be posting more of the fishing information here: www.lotzoutdoors.com/threads/trout-seaso...ening-day-2014.2344/

I am looking forward to some pan fried trout next weekend!

Hoping to limit out early. My ultra-light is nicknamed "Magic Stick" because I will pull trout out of a hole with 10 other fishermen standing there without a bite.

It is steelhead opener April 5. This year a no go because of ice. Plus three feet of snow you got to walk through to get there.

Well now, I do like fish, but here in NE taste not so good :pinch: unless ya get some nice clean water, mostly everything here taste like MUD  Normally I through the cats in a stock tank for a couple of weeks just to clean that mud taste out of them. No trout unless there stocked and then they only last a few weeks! So you guys with the good fishing are lucky, mostly the only reason I go is for the G-son gotta teach them the sport. :cheer:
Went to Canada a few years back and that spoiled me, right up on the Churchill river 10 days of bliss, it was the first week in May and still a little ice back in the coves, My best catch was a 42" Northern Pike the Walleye were awesome just a little early but they really started hitting around the end of the trip. I guess the highlight was flying in to a lake to fish the steelhead, a lifetime experience I'll never forget. Ate fresh fish for 9 1/2 days but on the last evening had a nice NE beef back strap I brought along and enjoyed with the camp owner. Made a friend for life and guess it's getting time to go back again.

Fish I catch out my front door.
Walleye
Lake Trout
Coho Salmon
Chinook Salmon
Northern Pike
Lake Sturgeon
Splake
Burbot
Small Mouth Bass
Steel Head
Brown Trout
Brook Trout
Lake Herring
Whitefish
Yellow Perch.
I am spoiled.
Only problem is you better ice fish because we have ice cover for five months a year some years, and this is one of them. I fish 40 -50 days a year. Get skunked maybe two or three of those days. The Bay I live on has probably the most diverse fishery in the United States. I spend a lot of my time doing lobbying work and leading a sport fishing organization to protect and enhance this fishery. One of the reasons my Forum name is a fish. I travel all over the Great Lakes and to Washington to do what needs to be done to make sure this fishery will continue long after I am gone. Fortunately I am not alone in this. We have good people in the clubs, the State and the Federal government who work their tails off to keep it that way. This is one place I don't mind seeing my tax dollars spent to keep it that way. As it is an $8 Billion industry on the Great Lakes. I will get off my soapbox now, :soapbox: But this is something I am a bit of a Zealot about.

Yesterday morning I went out to one of the local streams that are stocked with trout. My dad and I reeled in 10 fish before 8:30am. We were the first to have our limit and be headed back to the truck.

I scouted the river on Friday to see where all the fish were laying. Under a fallen tree I found about 60+ fish all stacked up in about 5-6 feet of water.

Stay tuned for some of the video! I got some great shots.
