This past week has been crazy. From something falling on our laptop last week and shattering the screen to being out of power since Wednesday I'm just glad the week is over!
Fortunately it was very easy to replace the screen and for $80 the laptop is new again.
Never been without power for so long with temperatures below freezing. Fortunately we had a generator to be able to keep the heat going and a few other things.
Can't imagine what it would have been like without the generator. Our fireplace did next to nothing in terms of heating the house.
Damn Martin,, you have any hair left ,, lol longest I ever went without power was 72 hours ,, WHAT A NIGHTMARE,, my neighbor's son had race cars for his kids so he pulled their race trailer down to the neighbors and we each plugged in 1 cord to get the fridge and freezer rolling again,,
Most people have no idea what total extended power loss will do ,, I have 10k gen and switch station wired up . I can run all major items ( mostly natural gas which helps load a bunch) in the house
water storage and purification is my next move ,,
Have a better week brother and GOD BLESS
Yeah, I'm going to put in a whole house 10k or 20k genset soon. The biggest issue is I work in facilities management so when the power goes out I've got 35 buildings to care for.
We just moved houses and our previous house had 100% standby. Some mornings when I would leave the house for work I'd walk outside and that was the first time I knew the power was out.
This house will not have a wood stove but when we move we will definitely have a wood stove that can handle heating the house.
As a kid we heated our house with wood for most of my life. Back then my parents burned about 200 gallons of oil a year. We cut a cord of firewood every Saturday morning.
My office was down to 33 degrees. I lost all the fish in my aquarium there.
And here I thought I had it bad when the furnace broke and I was without heat for just a bit over eight hours, it was only tenety two below that day, the house dropped to fiftysix degrees, it was cool, but nothing like what You peoples is going through.
35 buildings,, damn !!!! when do you have a spare minute,, hang tough brother ,, tell the family to look at it as a training op ,,
My dad would drag us up and we had to cut 22 cords every summer
also had a wood burner but it had a blower to grab air around the firebox and move it out,, then he put little 3" battery powered fans down the halls up at the ceiling to move air to the bedrooms,, didn't work too bad,, we are all on natural gas or propane mainly here,,
finally had a week that temps stayed above 20
