Who's found any new stuff? Lubes, grease, oil. Anything you've used in cold weather at the range that seemed to make a difference.
I've still been liking the TW25B but haven't used it in sub 30s yet so we'll see how it works out.
I want to try the froglube SOME time here since Colt's review/comparison but it takes a lot to get me to try much new stuff...(old and ornry I spose)
Anyone got any new thoughts about what we are facing for a winter and changes you might make for shooting or things that DID work well you'll be sticking with?
How about ammo? Do you shoot all of the same ammo when it cold with the same results or do you change up for cold weather shooting?
Just a general discussion about what we're looking at for winter shooting guys. Thoughts. Ideas..
I'm hoping to see a real winter finally, now that I'm a smidge more north. Not being one that ever been as far below 0 as some of you, I've still switched to lighter, more solvent lubes or LSA when I have it around.
I have not had any issues with Mil-Tech or Weapon shield grease in the cold. I forgot my grease at home last trip and had to buy some at the local shop. All they had in a syringe was Bore Tech Extreme grease HD,
www.boretech.com/products/extremegrease.shtml
they claim a temperature range of-85F to +2000F on the syringe but the website gives -55F to 700F, that seems a little more realistic. So far so good, I've only used it on pistols so far but it doesn't get tacky in the cold and didn't flow out when I heated the gun up with several rapid magazine changes.
I ran across this thread about Frog Lube and cold;
There is still a long way to go to find a consensus on this Frog stuff, it appears that proper application is a key. I'm skeptical how well it lubes when you you wipe it all off. It sounds good but I just haven't seen the scientific facts that would convince me there will not be abnormal wear. :twocents:
Nice recommendation on the Extreme Grease JT. I'd like to find something a little lighter but I don't want to go the oily route again.
Something about the grease I've been using that just seems to click for me. It stay where I put it and lasts all day at the range.
You know I always like Colt's thoughts as well but it's looking like it's gonna be a VERY cold one up here this year so I'm gonna have to do some reading and see what I end up with. The EG is gonna get my first efforts for some research JT. Thanks.
10cc for 9 bucks though...oooofff... And I do a lotta shootin... :evil:
I just nailed a buck with a pump action Mossberg slug gun at 13F with the TW25. Cycled fine, didnt even have to think about it, it was so smooth. That was after sitting out there for an hour. If it is really cold, I might switch to CLP, simply because its lighter and I have lots of it.
