Since no one has mentioned it yet, on this day 238 years ago the American Continental Congress authorized, "The enlistment of Riflemen" for a term of service of one year. Whether draftee, volunteer, enlisted or officer, thank those who served/still serving and wish them a happy birthday.
Nobody made me join the Army. I joined of my own free will and volition, full knowing the hazards of my chosen profession. I gave it everything - my blood, sweat, profanity, devotion and loyalty. On a couple of occasions I nearly gave it my life.
And it gave me so much more in return. I learned the true meaning of words like integrity, honor and selfless service. It taught me that there was more to leading people than simply saying, "You do this." It taught me all these things and millions more. My service informs every fiber of my being; I define myself by my service in the Army. I say these things proudly and without shame or ego.
Wherever I go, I am never alone. I have hundreds of thousands of battle brothers and sisters who have been through the same forge and hammered against the cold, hard anvil of truth, tempered into the finest, purest steel on the planet - An American Soldier.
To my Army brethren on this site, I raise my glass to you - Job well done!!
