So at the beginning of the reign of Obama, I correctly saw the possibility of gun and ammo shortages, and for the most part, was well prepared for this present shortage by investing in guns, ammo, scopes and other accessaries when I had the chance, and at reasonable prices.Hell, the other day I even found a 1,000 rds of 22 long rifle I had squirreled away 4 yr ago.
So then I bought stock in Smith and Wesson, figuring it would benefit from the coming buying frenzy. Well, despite that company having huge sales and working around the clock at 100% capacity, they only were up 3% this year, under performing the average 10% rise in the market. Cabela's, on the other hand, primarily due to sales of guns and ammo, is up 24%. Man, I love Cabelas but it never occurred to me it might benefit like that. Coulda bought it, shoulda bought it. Missed the boat again.

I was lucky, in that I got what I needed while Prices were reasonable. I got out of gun stocks last summer, and also out of tech stocks( see Apple). Best thing I ever did was a few years ago with the big Chilean earthquake. I immediately invested in some large publicly traded Chilean construction firms. Two weeks later, the Chilean government released 60 billion dollars in cash reserves for reconstruction. Their stock value went up 35 to 40% almost immediately. I cashed out quick. They went back down two weeks later. Timing is everything.
