I was watching the news last night and am seeing how several news agencies have picked up and run with Obama's misleading statement regarding US weapons going to Mexico drug cartels. The push is on to reinstate the assault weapons ban along with more draconian restrictions on firearms. I think the time may be growing short if you want to buy a semiautomatic rifle. Time to support the NRA like you never have before.
Mean time I waited 8 weeks to get 500 rds brass from Cabelas for my 308.
It is not just guns and ammo in short supply, however, as I have waited over 4 mo for some parts for various farm equipment due to the economic slowdown( and still waiting).
If you wonder if your firearms are a worthwhile investment and good insurance policy for home protection, google Gerald Celente's predictions on the great depression of 2009-2010, and his thoughts on the coming crime wave.
It is bad enough that there is no ammunition available or the supplies to reload our own.
It is even worse if You ca`nt get parts to keep Your machinery going that helps feed the people,That is when the big crime wave will hit,When there is no food.
3 years ago I told My sons and several other people"We are heading into a depression that will make the dirty thirties look like a cake walk",They scoffed at Me.
I have a lot of brass it is the primers, bullets and powder that are out of stock every where.
Bullets are getting hard to come by in this area too.
I got into a deal on new primed match .308 brass, about 2500 rounds for 300 bucks so if primers become limited I can still use My already primed brass.
I was in lewistown Mt.over the weekend and Bobs had a sign on the front door"We have primers, ask at the rifle counter"
Went in and asked and they did have large rifle primers but were selling 2boxes{200 primers} per customer.
I have a couple thousand so I went ahead and got 2 boxes for a friend and He also got His 2 boxes.
Went into Sportsman Warehouse in Billings,Mt and they had no brass, primers or bullets for the .308 cal cartriges.
They did`nt even have any percussion caps for the muzzleloaders, said people had started hoarding them too.
I got back home and went ot Red Rock sporting goods and picked Me up several thousand rounds of caps for the just in case.
Ace Hardware just got in about 30 boxes of the Federal Mil.Ball ammo in .308 for 14.95 so I think I will go out and get a few boxes of them too.
Ya just ca`nt have enough ammo.LOL
I'd feel a little better about the NRA if they clearly and solidly advocated for rescinding the 1986 NFA list closure. As it is they seem far to focused on Hunting and Sport shooting. Nevertheless the do make a difference in terms of the legal battle.
I think we'll see Dems hold off on AWB for now, so call it 3 to 6 months, and see if people cool off. 6 constant months of people buying arms and ammunition appear to have raised their awareness that the AWB is unpopular. That said I wouldn't be supprised if a late night run as with the last AWB occurs at some point during the next 4 years.
I think we're coming down off a gun bubble slightly for now. Pieces of garbage were selling for premium prices a month or so ago, things have slowed down for now. Ammo also is being stockpiled at ridiculous rates, and I don't think we'll see anything affecting that for a number of months either.
Still, if you ever want a particular arm, not for investment or "end of the world", but rather for marksmanship, collecting etc. it might be wise to do so soon. I've filled my gun cabinet with the various arms I would ever want to own (unless they rescind the 1986 NFA list closure ), and I can say they are arms I had always wanted, planned to get eventually, just decided to purchase now while they were available.
Frankly, I think what we'll see is a much more subtle approach where possible. I think the most credible things we can expect anti-rights groups to go for is banning import of all foreign weapons components and even "sporting" weapons, such as the saiga 12. I expect registration and tracking is likely to continue being promoted as well. Frankly I wouldn't object to background check, registration, and tracking if it hadn't already been used with NFA weapons to essentially ban an entire class of arms to the public. Virtually no NFA weapons were ever used in violence over the last 70 years, so why block registration of new auto-rifles?
Till we get a permanent and unquestionable affirmation that the public can keep and bear such arms as the M16 or the M60, and the NFA list is reopened, as well as giving more oversight/appeal reforms with BATFE, I don't think I will further trust registration and tracking systems, and remind people of how they've already been abused.
