This is from Luckygunner.com
I thought it was interesting.
For me, I'm hoping my dogs will wake me up
and aviod a surprise intruder. But I think it's worth the post.

If you've ever thought about how to properly hide a home defense handgun in your bedroom, this DIY guide from one of our customers here at LuckyGunner.com is pretty ingenious. He has taken a pair of old blue jeans and sewn them in such a way as to create a closet holster that allows a loaded handgun to be hidden in the middle of the blue jeans while ensuring the blue jeans remain hanging on a hanger. We call it a "Closet Jeans Holster". It's the perfect closet concealed carry location for your home - and below this customer of ours shows you how you can create the same for your home.

If I'm gonna be hiding anything in my closet, it's gonna be the mook that just broke in until I can get some rest and bag his ass properly. It's not like a keep huge supplies of lime onhand anyway and the feed store doesn't open til 9am...

That's actually kinda rude isn't it. I'm an insensitive clod sometimes.

The only way I can see a gun in the closet as being a good idea is if it is between you and wherever someone MIGHT be coming from. Hiding weapons is good but not a primary. You have to think in stages - what will you want to grab first and where should it be placed in correlation to where someone COULD be when you discover them.

Then, if they are armed and you are losing with your primary, where CAN you fall back to and what will be your back up...

If you have something hiding in the closet, that COULD be a good secondary weapon ONLY if the closet it where you intend to be in case everything is NOT going your way after the first few seconds OR if you are thinking someone has you at gunpoint and is now making you go through your clothes to pull out the money you have stashed which, well, isn't much of a plan really...

I like ingenious hiding places for things but guns need to be either locked up OR, where you need them for WHEN you need them and accessible quickly and easily after you have figured out what you need THAT weapon for...

We plan for weddings, we plan to build a house, we NEED to think about what we would do if someone came in unexpectedly and be ready with primary AND back up/fall back plans as well. It just makes sense to plan for it just like you would at work. Just having a gun in a "cool" hiding place is not enough to protect yourself and your family should, God forbid, you ever need to...

Just my take guys. But hey, what do I know...

Also, what happens if you are robbed by someone with a fetish for old jeans? God knows my WIFE worries about people being after what is IN mine but ya know, someone might JUST want the pants for a change.... :rotfl:

My Dad used to hide his .357 in a pair of old pants in his closet. Unbeknowenst to him, I knew from the age of 10 where it was, where his backup was, what it was loaded with and where the rest of the household firearms were. If you have kids, assume they will find them, even if you get creative. In my case I knew enough not to play with them, I just looked at them and left them alone. No guarantee all kids would do that. With some of the high tech safes and lockboxes available, you should be able to safely keep a firearm close to where you sleep. If you are not home, it will be stolen, box and all. Keep your other firearms in a well rated and properly secured safe that would take hours for a thief to get into. Most of them want to get out in minutes. For a cheaper way, try this. Put a lock on your drawer next to your bed. Put the key in the lock every night when you go to bed. The rest of the time it stays in your pocket. If you want backup, put a trigger lock on a shotgun in your closet, and have that key on the same chain. You have access, with some guarantee they could not be turned against you.
ps Shark, Gary Busey?

That is a cool ideal, however I'm Sharky gun needs to be close and since I don't have small kids and do not want any of those things(kids) in my house my shotgun lays right next to me, and the wifes right next to her. Now having said that let me xplain a little I live on my boat and sleep in the v-berth so I just have to reach over grab point and shoot.

It's the small things in lifr that make you feel safe
