I was watching C130s doing training today.

I always think of this one kid that sat across from me one trip.

We were on our way to Camp Ripley Minnesota for ski and snow shoe training and this one kid was sitting DIRECTLY across from me. He was just a horribly pimply faced, skinny guy with big ears from Utah and I just KNEW he was gonna be a heaver.

Well, of course we were doing the good old 300 foot drops every once in a while and I could hear guys around me popping into their steal pots and just KNEW I didn't want to even look up for a second but I just had to.

I pulled my arctic hood back for a sec and right there in front of me was that kid with a little chunky dribble still dangling from his chin, his face all red, zits all swollen and he looked like his entire face was gonna pop with that helpless "oh gosh I'm gonna die" look on his face, and I just went OOOOOOHHHHHHh NOOOO I am not EVER gonna look up again... No how, now way am I gonna even lift my head again or I'm gonna be losin it myself...lol

That's one flight I'll never forget. Thank God I finally fell asleep cuz if I looked and saw him bustin again or even so much as a SINGLE pimple burst, I was afraid I'd lose it myself and NOTHIN makes me puke cep seein other guys doin it right in front of me....

And that's why it's known as the "Vomit Comet."

I mostly just miss being called Marine... I still work with the military daily (albiet with the Air Force) and deploy to the Middle East a few times a year so I still get a taste from time to time. I can't believe I'll have been out for 13 years come May...

I'll be proud to call you "Marine" all day Hebs.. Once a marine...ya know...

I think one of the things I miss is just being out there doing stuff that as a civilian, we NEVER get a chance to do.

Hell, I took up shark fishing just so I was doing something with a little danger involved now that I'm a TOTAL civilian.

My wife knows I need SOME kind of risk in my life and carrying her laundry baskets won't be very risky till I hit at least 65 or so...

Yeah... I don't get to tote a gun which isn't all bad. I also tell people it's not in my contract to catch enemy bullets, mortars or rockets... ;)
