was in the first wave during the invasion of Normandy, he landed at Omaha beach(wounded by machine gun fire to his legs AND stabbed eight times by a German soldier who he killed in hand to hand combat with a rock) he was sent to England to recover, he was the only survivor of his unit. After recovery he returned to the front lines just in time for the Battle of the Bulge where he was again wounded and taken prisoner, he was only one of a few who survived the massacre at Malmedy
Tip your hats men. This man was a Trooper long before many of us were born and now we are lessened by his loss, but enriched by his life, bravery and charm.
I'm at a loss and have always liked him in everything he's done and always knew we was a warrior which was part of why I enjoyed his acting so much.
