How many rounds will you usually burn on a single trip to the range?
I will easily put 200 thru my AR10 and then another 100 slugs through my Benelli M4 but I don't go as often as I would like and prefer to really go for it when I DO get there.
If there are only two of us a 50-100 rounds through the AR-10 seems to satisfy me. When I get together with family on the holidays they'll shoot as many rounds as I bring! Dad used to spend a bunch on fireworks for the 4th but he decided the ammo is a bigger hit with the kids so he always buys a can, hope some cans show up to buy! We easily burn a 500 pack of .22's with pistols and rifles as well.
My oldest granddaughter won't go out to shoot the 1911 if I'm not bringing at least a hundred pack and then she wants to know what I'm going to shoot!
It really depends on what I am trying to do.
Load development can consist of 10-20 round batches for each charge, seating depth, etc. That can add up fast. If I'm getting to shoot long, at least 100 rounds to make it worth the trip and set up. Just working out to stay in good form, I like to run 40 rounds. I'll check zero, then spend the rest at whatever distance I can. This used to be the lunch hour shoot because I found it was more beneficial to go more frequently than have more ammo for fewer sessions.
For the AR15, I still have 600ish in crap ammo I need to burn up, but generally 5.56 tends to go a 300 round average. If the kids are shooting we will burn through 2k+ before we know it, usually running out of stuff to shoot first.
My pistol craft is weak sauce. I only save enough to have full mags at the end of the day. Everything else is spent on practice, practice, practice.
