Well it didn't take long for the "assault" on assault weapons to start again, both in Washington and here in Illinois, even as Illinois will now be the 50th state to have concealed carry, as soon as the Illinois congress writes the law.
The one thing I have heard no one say on tv is, What if the principle had had a weapon, or what if anyone there had been armed? In Illinois, many junior high and high schools have armed security, either private, or supplied by local police. Now these are being cut out due to budget cuts. I know that having someone (teacher, principle or security) is the logical thing to do and I also this has nothing to do with logic. It is purely the latest excuse by the antigun groups to grab what they can.
Given the antibusiness and antigun environment in Chicago and Springfield, I wonder what keeps Armalite and the other gun manufacturers in this state, anyway.
Trying to tax me to death and now take away the guns. Wonder when it will lead to our own version of the 1775 confrontation at the North Bridge of Concord? Oh, well, gun owners survived Carter and Clinton.I suppose we will survive Obama, too.

Sounds like we've began a run on guns! I just talked to Armalite about getting an SPR MOD1 for the wife ;) They are so flooded they can't be sure yet but it looks like it could be as far out as July before it would be available. I'm torn, the wife is suddenly all for it and the SPR is the "one" for her ;) but I'm just not sure the present law will hold that long. I don't want to Wait months and have some ignorant law cancel my order!
I hope you have all contacted your politicians, it does matter! here is an easy way to contact all your federal officials with one click; secure.downsizedc.org/etp/atrocities/
Stop the insanity!

My Friend Fox...I totally agree..there is so much going on right now that it staggers the mind...Without getting into my own opinion of things to deeply, it seems that things are so coincidental in the fact..given the things that proclaim the future...as for the industry, many have asked that question..why are some of the largest gun companies located in a state that has some of the strictest gun laws...who know on that one...
but I agree with your out look on things...
JTN83...you might look towards WindHam Weaponry ...they make good, quality rifles, not taking away from Armalite...but they can be found, at least for the time being, at hand...for now.
I rank them right up there with ArmaLite and Colt and Cmmg as for their quality...if you find one...buy it and build it..it may be your only option...for quality.
Personally...I hate it when things like this happen, the Media and Government always put it out there..."he had an Assault Rifle"...there is such a major difference between an AR-15 and an "Assault Rifle"....A True
"ASSAULT RIFLE" is capable of "FULLY AUTOMATIC FIRE" where the AR-15 or 10 is not...but they use it to their advantage....being most people do not know the difference.
Question...for those out there...if someone uses their truck to kill a bunch of people or a Claw Hammer to do the same...will we move to ban those items from Society...and call them "EVIL"...most likely not...but "guns" are a different story...they are "Evil" and "BAD" and the world would be a better place without them...huh...so they think...and the Government wishes...so they can do as they wish without the possibility of reprisal for trying to control us...Oh my...I went and did it...Sorry..
anyway...the time is coming, make ready and peace with God, for we are at a Threshold...in Life.

Definition
In the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Violent crimes are defined in the UCR Program as those offenses which involve force or threat of force.

Data collection
The data presented in Crime in the United States reflect the Hierarchy Rule, which requires that only the most serious offense in a multiple-offense criminal incident be counted. The descending order of UCR violent crimes are murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, followed by the property crimes of burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. Although arson is also a property crime, the Hierarchy Rule does not apply to the offense of arson. In cases in which an arson occurs in conjunction with another violent or property crime, both crimes are reported, the arson and the additional crime.

Overview
In 2010, an estimated 1,246,248 violent crimes occurred nationwide, a decrease of 6.0 percent from the 2009 estimate.
When considering 5- and 10-year trends, the 2010 estimated violent crime total was 13.2 percent below the 2006 level and 13.4 percent below the 2001 level.
There were an estimated 403.6 violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants in 2010.
Aggravated assaults accounted for the highest number of violent crimes reported to law enforcement at 62.5 percent. Robbery comprised 29.5 percent of violent crimes, forcible rape accounted for 6.8 percent, and murder accounted for 1.2 percent of estimated violent crimes in 2010.
Information collected regarding type of weapon showed that firearms were used in 67.5 percent of the Nation’s murders, 41.4 percent of robberies, and 20.6 percent of aggravated assaults. (Weapons data are not collected for forcible rape.) (See Expanded Homicide Data Table 7, Robbery Table 3, and the Aggravated Assault Table.)

I totally agree, In my school growing up it was one of the police duties to always have a police officer present in the school, he was usually the old guy waiting for retirement, but still it was a great deterent for any would be students thinking of becoming violent. We need to fix society, not the gun laws. Guns aren't evil, or good, the hands that hold it determine in which way it'll be used.

Back in the day it wasn't uncommon to go hunting in the morning before heading off to school. We'd often go straight from the woods to school, so it wasn't all that uncommon to see rifles hanging in the rear window of pickup or two in the school parking lot. We attended school, and at end of the day we'd head home, go shooting, or do some more hunting. I don't ever recall hearing of a stolen rifle. I know for certain we never had a school shooting.

Fast forward several decades. Actually quite a few decades.

The guns are gone. We have Armed Security in schools. We have nearly half a million serious injuries in schools resulting from violence. And things only appear to be getting worse.

What a crying shame. What the hell happened to our society?

I remember those days. I remember every kid carried a pocket knife. I remember the vice principal borrowing mine once, complementing on how sharp it was. Having a knife at school was against the rules, but it was only enforced on those that did dumb stuff with their knives. I remember being 12 and walking across town with my friends, all carrying loaded rifles, on our way down the train tracks to shoot crows, coons, and what not where the grain cars leaked out. Nobody saw criminals back then. Just boys out doing boy stuff.

I distinctly remember the belt and paddle too! Use either today, and you're pretty much assured a visit from Social Services.

When I was in the 7th grade (1972), I was in a gun club at school. Three times that year about 15 kids would go skeet shooting after school. I would get on the school bus with a 16 ga shotgun and a box of shells. Upon arriving at school, we all stacked our shotguns in the corner of a classroom. Not a word was said. No raised eyebrows. Our instructor had taught the proper way to handle our firearms. After school we loaded up in several cars to go to the range.
Can you imagine even a suggestion of that today?

Steve

I to remember the good ol'days of gun clubs in school and the pocket knife being just as much a part of my school kit as a pencil. The feel gooder's ended all that but the death tolls rise. I kept my rifle in a scabbard on my moped, when the vice-principal saw I explained I checked my trap line before school. He told me it would be better to keep it in my locker, just make sure it isn't loaded. I assured him I would never bring a loaded gun indoors. My final project in metals shop was cutting down the barrel on a sporterized Enfield rifle. The only question asked was if I was sure I knew what I was doing. God I yearn for the days when common sense held some sway!
