I just finished reading NO EASY DAY by Mark Owen. This is the book about the UBL mission by a SEAL that was there. Great read, I highly recommend it. I won't spoil it for anybody but I will comment on the political hub-bub that surrounded the books release. There are no operational security issues revealed that were not already in the public record that I can see. On the contrary, he does an excellent job of pointing out where the leaks about the mission came from. He does give the Commander in Chief credit for making the right decision but it becomes quite obvious why the administration delayed the book as long as they could.
I also thought the book did a great job of showing the serious sacrifice we have been asking of these men for over a decade now and he did it without whining or bitching about it. I hope some day we can know who this man is, and run him for President! :usa:
In the Garden of Beasts - about the first year (1933) of U.S. Ambassador William Dodd and family "tour of duty" in pre-war Berlin. Based on diaries and letters of American, German, Soviet, and other players on the scene.
The Gun Digest Book of the AR15-Volume1. I feel like I am long overdue on this and saw it on Kindle. Any opinions on this book from our more technically advanced members? Seems like a pretty good overview on the AR platform.
The first time I read "The fellowship of the Ring" was in 1968. I still have the paperbacks, cost me 75 cents each. Movies were great, but the books are better.
“Today we are fighting Communism. Okay. If I'd been alive fifty years ago, the brand of Conservatism we have today would have been damn near called Communism and we should have been told to go and fight that. History is moving pretty quickly these days and the heroes and villains keep on changing parts.”
Just finished the second volume of "The Gun Digest Book of the AR15". They are good reads as far as learning about the extended AR family. The author is biased towards the 5.56 cartridge, but as he does a lot of three gun matches, and on the move live fire training, that is understandable. In volume one he tested out the AR10. But he's as up front that he only puts in manufacturers who's products pass the grade. Has anybody else read these? I would like to hear your opinions. They are available on kindle.
