Since I don't want to have to buy 10 of them and see which one fits the best, I'm hoping someone has found one that works. I have the standard A frame front sight and lug on mine.
Please identify the bayonet for me. I'd like to get a couple or 3.
As bayonets are almost never used anymore, I'm sure they're available as Armalite makes a mount for them, but I hope we never see the day where we'll need one.
The days of charging the hill with 50 men bayonets fixed have gone into the "bad idea" warfare book only to be used when there are no more bullets. Although I imagine there is a place for them I’m sure a pistol is a better choice.
You are obviously (I believe forgive me if I'm wrong) thinking a lawless society issue and standing defensively against looters etc. In which case falling back to a handgun for CQB may be a better option. As a luke warm prepper myself (I prepare for mother nature emergencies more than the end of the world stuff) I do have some stock piles of ammo etc. But in a situation where I have a choice between my Glock 21 (.45 ACP) and a bayonet I'm grabbing the Glock every time. On the other hand if we're talking Tacticool I think an AR 10 would look bitchin with a bayonet on it. But functionally I think a bayonet would be a very last ditch effort just before getting killed.
All that being said....please keep in mind I was in the US Coast Guard. I have zero combat experience...and could very well be talkin out my butt here. My thoughts are theoretical. I just wouldn't want anyone that close. In Law Enforcement we tend to think the 21 foot rule. Get closer than that and it's time to consider shooting. This was not always possible as a Boarding Officer. But when I was doing "hot" boarding’s if you were within 21 feet I was watching you like a laser and extremely aware of where you were and what your hands were doing.
If you find a quality bayonet please let us all know. For the mancave I'd love to get one.
I don't have the bayonet lug on the AR-10 But do have it on the M4 so I'm thinking either the M7 or M9 Bayonet will work. Go to the nearest pawn or gun shop and give them a try and let us know.
To put it simply, I was looking over bayonets one night with one of my young sons beside me and he got psyched, that got the other one psyched and now I've agreed to get at least ONE for one of my weapons - maybe more for the halibut.
They love seeing cool stuff and although I'm not big on getting things I normally have no use for, I DO love my boys' enthusiasm about all the "cool stuff" available for some of our weapons..
Normally I am a "matter of fact" and "strictly what is needed" kinda fella but what the heck.
They are 6 and 9 and I'm almost 50 so what am I gonna do. Gotta say yes about at least SOME of their wishes for gun-bling once in a while....

I was thinking those also but since I don't have an AR15 right now to compare muzzle sizes to, I was a bit concerned with the possible size differences with the lugs as well as the flash suppressor. Mine is completely factory at that end with the stock suppressor and lug so if someone has an AR15, M16 or M15 and can get a measurement of the flash suppressor and lug, I'd appreciate it.
I'll bounce it off of mine and see what'll work.
If I get one that is too small, I could always bore some for the suppressor but if the lug won't work, I'd be stuck so measurements would be greatly appreciated.
I'll check it out for you! my calipers is at work so it will be later. I'm really sure the lugs are the same as the flash suppressor, so I'm 99% sure the M7 or M9 will work, the problem I'm having is the standard military M4 vs the civilian barrel length, military is about 1 1/2" shorter so the bayonet sits further back on the recessed part of the barrel and is sloppy.
