I see where your going, so have you look in the pwan shops around your area for a good tripod?

I use a floding work bench from craftsman it has a clamping system and I use a five gllon bucket for a seat. It is all low tec but with a good set of bags the bench works great, and it always in the back of the pick-up. I live aboard my boat so I understand the not having a lot of space to keep stuff so it's all has to do at lease 2 jobs.

This little project is grinding along slowly. The short of it, me trying to be a cheap bastard and save $10 on the price of the tripod left me with no tripod. So I broke down and ordered one.

I did mess around with a few in the hardware store and have come up with a few ideas that I think will work out for what I want.

I placed my order here, at the time it was 44.99.
www.factoryauthorizedoutlet.com/dewalt/p...p?CAWELAID=829718828

Shop around a bit, originally this same tripod was @ lowes for $35.99 but that was a clearance price. I also missed a killer deal on dewalt 18v batteries. I would have loved to have found a fiberglass tripod, but those are $$$. pawn shop had one for $200 beat to shit and way too tall.
Something else I noticed, It looks like the legs will be easy to trim down a bit so that collapsed it sits at bench height, and still have enough to use standing with a yoke type rest.

The top of this thing is just a chunk of aluminum with a 5/8x11 lug in the center, removable on most I have seen. A person could bolt on pretty much anything.
Something like this for leveling the table top. www.amazon.com/PanaVise-400-Heavy-Duty-B...id=1336343581&sr=1-1
I have seen a bench vise with a ball swivel at harbor freight that I might be able to pilfer for this purpose @ $16.

Plus a ratchet strap to pull down on the tripod. I'm thinking this could make it pretty solid.

Yep that should work, I know I use those when I am on a long distance crusie on motorcycle for weather tie downs, just made sue wind don't turn the bike on it's ear, you may not know it but there are some windy places in this country.
