I just experienced something that makes me even more sure that I need a suppresor. I had my grandkids and nephew out for some range time. We don't have an official range just 280 acres of hill country and timber. I did my normal trip around the section looking for anyone in the fields or maybe mushroom hunting and with no signs of people we set up and started throwing lead. We were shooting off a lane and down into a ditch about 150 yds, not a hill ahead or beside us that isn't at least 300 foot higher than the targets, that with the downward angle and hay bales for a backer and I feel pretty safe about it for a range. The kids shot the .22's for an hour then I got the AR-10 out. I slowly emptied a 25 round clip into the target at 150 yards and was reloading so the kids could take a few shots when a farmer came flying up. The farmer started screaming that he was working over the hill and could hear bullets flying over his head. :sick: My heart dropped, here I was instructing the kids on saftey and this happens. He wasn't sure what kind of cannon I was shooting but the deputy better take it away, thats when I notice the deputy coming down the lane. Doing his job, the deputy started getting all the details. Turns out the tree's he was working behind were at a 90 degree angle from where we were shooting from and about 3/4 of a mile away. Physics tell me that the odds of my bullets flying over his head were slim to none at best. He kept screaming so I never got to say a word to him but when he tore off the deputy told us there wasn't a problem with our location and left. If I would have had a supressor I don't think the guy would have even known we were there. We called it a day not wanting any more confrontation with the hot head but it sure pissed me off because the 25 round group (FN surplus ammo) could be covered by a silver dollar, damn that rifle can shoot! 
I guess the costs of a suppressor might be worth not dealing with idiots like that! Who in their right mind screams at a group of people all holding guns anyway! :huh:
