I'd like to put together a list of recommended scopes for AR-10 shooters so that visitors to the site can use it as a short list to start their research. Here's a first stab at it. What do you think of these optics?

Long/Mid Range
Carbine

Reflex

The Bushnell tactical Elite series is worth a look, great value for the money and they will take abuse. I have two of the 1x6.5 SMRS models and love them
The 3.5x21 model is getting high scores on lots of reviews, odds are it will be my next scope.

I own a Trijicon TA-11J (red 5.56X45 reticle), and I recommend it highly. The ACOG is not exactly an introductory optic, but it works well with my Steyr AUG.

I use the Bushnell 6500 Ellite 4-16X55 Mil Dot on the AR-10BF and AR-10BNMF, and it works well in the 100 to 300 yard range.

I'm going to pick up a Vortex Sparc 2 for the Sig MPX tomorrow morning (we got a couple in today, and 20% discount :-) ), and will post updates as warranted.

Read a review of the Sparc in RECOIL magazine. They abused it horribly bashing it against trees, drowning it, freezing it, burning it, they finally had to shoot it to kill the dot! Best part is Vortex would warranty that and replace it with a new one!

Our reloading guy told me that. He's a virtual encyclopedia of knowledge on firearms, optics, reloading, and pretty much every other thing firearms related, plus humble to boot! If I had a firearms shop I would hire him on the spot, and for twice what he's making at "A"!

Really need to add the 1-4 power scopes like the Trijicon Accupoint to the carbine class. These are awesome for shooting out to 400m. Some feel they are more useful than a reflex optic.

Just thought I'd throw this out there...

I read every word of the posts related to this overview...scroll down to "Other Post in this Series". To say I learned something about rating optics is a gross understatement.

I picked up the Vortex Sparc II today. First thoughts are:

1. It comes with low and high mounts, and a spacer.
2. The high mount is not see-through, which is disappointing.
3. The rail mount is attached with a torx bolt. i.e. not removable without tools.

Other than that it's pretty cool. I ended up installing the high mount without the spacer (37mm height above the rail). I'm going to check aftermarket rail risers for a see-thorough mount so I can use the pop-up BUIS with the Sparc installed.

Isn't the high mount for a 1/3 cowittness? ADM makes a QD mount that will work on it if you're looking for that, here is the set they sell so I'm sure you can get the mount seperate I just didn't see it first.
